The Physical Therapy Department was established in 2003 to prepare graduates trained in Physical Therapy in order to satisfy the needs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to fulfill the great demand in the Health Care Community.

Courses Description
ANTM 204- Anatomy for Medical Rehabilitation Sciences
The purpose of the course is to provide the student with the structure of the human body, an overview of the general anatomical terms, anatomy of the upper limb, lower limb, back and face. The course content consists of introduction to regional anatomy, anatomy of the upper limbs, anatomy of the lower limb, vertebral column, head and neck. Instructional methods include classroom lectures, tutorial lessons, assignments and practical sessions.
PHYM 210- Physiology
This course is a continuation of the physiological mechanisms of body systems. The course contents include heart and circulation, endocrine glands, nervous system and autonomic nervous system. Methods of instruction include lectures, tutorial lessons, assignments, laboratory experience, and tape-slide program. The course content includes physiology of the respiratory system, oxygen transport system, physiology of renal system and endocrine system.
PHTH 271- Fundamental Tests and Measurements
The primary purpose of the course is to help the student to Integrate and apply the evaluation guidelines for standard manual muscle testing of the upper and lower limbs, neck and face. The course is designed to explain the Manual Muscle Testing and joint range of motion and anthropometry evaluations used in Physical Therapy. The aim of the course is to provide students with theoretical and practical guidelines in testing for correct and safe muscular and joint evaluation of the upper limb, scapula, lower limbs, neck and face as applied in Physical Therapy.
PHTH 272- Therapeutic Modalities (1)
The purpose of this course is to build up knowledge about fundamental concepts and characteristics of electrophysics with special emphasis on clinical applications and skills necessary for the use of different electromagnetic modalities (radiation and waves), Techniques of therapeutic electrical pain control, tissue healing and repair and functional electrical stimulation are included. Heat and cold physical laws governing hydrotherapy biological effects and clinical uses of different hydrotherapy techniques. The course content includes summary of the regulating systems of the body, Physical properties of water and heat transmission, different Electrical stimulation currents, pain, basic principles of hydrotherapy and its different methods and techniques. Also the course has a practical part that enables students to apply manually different methods and techniques on their colleagues in the laboratory classes.
PHTH 273- Therapeutic Exercises
The purpose of this course is to build up knowledge about principles and concepts of therapeutic exercises with special emphasis on clinical applications and skills necessary for applying different therapeutic exercises techniques for different pathological conditions. The course contents include Introduction for therapeutic exercises, Fundamental and derived positions, Range of motion exercises, Isokinetic exercises, Flexibility and stretching exercises, Peripheral joint mobilization, Spinal traction ,Balance and coordination exercises ,Connective tissue massage and Postural exercises. Instructional methods include lectures, tutorial lessons and practical sessions.
PHTH 274- Therapeutic Modalities (2)
The purpose of this course is to build up knowledge about fundamental concepts and characteristics of heat, electromagnetic modalities (radiation and waves),biofeedback, cryotherapy, vibration and mechanical waves, Also it provides the principles of underwater exercises and electro-diagnosis and the physiological effects and clinical uses of different hydrotherapeutic modalities. The course content includes summary of the heat and its physiological effects, electromagnetic spectrum (Infra-red, Ultraviolet, Short wave, Microwave, Laser),Cryotherapy, Paraffin wax, US, Phonophoresis, Vibration, Biofeedback, Electro-diagnosis and Spa therapy. Also the course has a practical part that enables students to apply manually different methods and techniques on their colleagues in the laboratory classes.
PHTH 229- Biomechanics
The main course purpose is to provide the student with background of the basic biomechanical concepts influencing human movement and guide student to apply these concepts to Physical Therapy assessment and intervention. This course is designed to introduce the student to body mechanics, posture, kinematics and kinetic of human motion. Practical applications of postural management will be taught.
PHTH 334- Physical Therapy for Cardiopulmonary Disorders
This course is designed to provide student with comprehensive background in the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the cardiovascular and pulmonary system. These concepts will form the basis for physical therapy management of people with cardiopulmonary disorders. Issues such as the effect of exercise training on cardiopulmonary system and contraindications for physical therapy to be presented and discussed. The course content includes the effect of exercise training on cardiopulmonary system and contraindications for physical therapy to be presented and discussed. The course includes a laboratory in which students learn physical therapy interventions for people cardiopulmonary conditions. Learning will be accomplished by lectures.
PHTH 335- Clinical Practice for Cardiopulmonary Disorders
The overall purpose of the course is to provide students with a foundational knowledge of addresses issues related to fieldwork and clinical practice, including data collection for workplace and clinical/fieldwork purposes for cardiopulmonary disorders. Students undertake structured and supervised treatment of a variety of clients with different cardiopulmonary disorders performance in children and adults from diverse etiological, cultural and ethnic groups.
PATM 310- Pathology
This course purpose is to provide students with basic knowledge and general principles of general pathology. Course content includes cell injury, inflammation, and acute inflammation, chronic inflammation, cell regeneration, wound healing, infections, homodynamic disorders, neoplasia and autoimmune disorders. Course contents include basic general pathology and pathological aspects of certain diseases as neoplasia, diseases of immune system, infection, heart diseases and hypertension.
PHAM 310- Pharmacology
This course is designed to give students basic information of the general principles of pharmacology. Course contents include mode of drug action, drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, drug addiction and abuse, clinical pharmacokinetics, analgesics, corticosteroids, drugs affecting cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Course contents include autonomic nervous system pharmacology, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antihypertensive drugs and skeletal relaxants.
PHTH 341- Physical Therapy for Musculoskeletal Disorders
This course provides students with adequate knowledge and skills to evaluate and implement physical therapy procedures to individuals with musculoskeletal problems. Conservative treatment for pre and post-operative care will be emphasized. Students learn how to perform and document examination of musculoskeletal patients using a variety of measurement tools. PHTH 461- Physical Therapy for Women Health
This course provides students with adequate knowledge and skills to evaluate and implement proper physical therapy management in different obstetrics and gynecological conditions. Contents of women health physical therapy are briefly summarized in teaching topics of basic anatomy of female reproductive system, antenatal and postnatal care. Moreover, topics like normal and abnormal peurperium, normal labor, C-section, gynecological problems (e.g. genital organ prolapse, retroverted uterus and dysmenorrheal) are taught also. For the practical contents, teaching basic techniques of assessment and treatment in addition to fundamental exercises of women health cases.
PHTH 481- Physical Therapy for Neurological Disorders
The main course purpose is to enable the student to help the neurologically disabled patient to return to the highest level of function and independence thus improving the overall quality of life for that patient - physically, emotionally, and socially. This course includes physical therapy approach to neurologically disabled patients. It informs students about problems, assessment and treatment of patients with neurological disorders. Also the course has a practical part that enables students to apply manually different methods of management on their colleagues in the laboratory classes.
PHTH 482- Clinical Practice for Neurological Disorders
The overall purpose of the course is to provide students with a foundational knowledge of addresses issues related to fieldwork and clinical practice, including data collection for workplace and clinical/fieldwork purposes for neurological disorders. This course includes physical therapy approach to neurologically disabled patients. It allows students to be trained in the hospital and taught how to deal with patients with neurological disorders regarding the assessment and treatment. The course enables students to apply manually and repeatedly the different methods of management to acquire skills.
PHTH 491- Research Project in Physical Therapy
This course is designed to familiarize students with the principles and procedures of scientific research. Each student will choose a research project and write a specific proposal. The course content includes basic elements of research, review of various research methods and procedures, interpreting the research literature and to educate student how to write a medical paper for publication.
PHTH 494- Physical Therapy for Wound Care
This course is designed to familiarize students with the principles and procedures of scientific In this course, the students learn how the role of the physical therapy in wound care, how to evaluate and detect the treatment methods for wound and how can she design and apply an integrated treatment program. In this course, the students learn how to perform and document examinations of patients with surgical and wound using a variety of measurement tools to determine impairments and set functional goals. Analysis of theoretical bases for therapeutic approaches will be emphasized. Physical therapy intervention and treatment rationale is emphasized through case study and a multidisciplinary approach.
